The airport will receive 11 million passengers in summer,
3.2% more than last year
Aena is optimistic with their forecasts and Malaga is one of the airports with the most promising expectations.
The airport institution Aena foresees a total amount of 1.16 million of passengers for this summer, that is to say, 4.3% more passengers than last summer thanks, amongst other reasons, to the increase in the number of passenger places by 7.4%. The forecast for the airport in Málaga as more than 11 million passengers is an increase of 3.2%. More specifically, the airport hosting most passengers are Madrid-Barajas (with 42 million, 22.3% higher), Barcelona (with 31 million, 22.2% higher), Palma de Mallorca (23 million, 12.6% higher) the mentioned case of Málaga, Andalucía (with more than 8.95 million, 6.6% higher), and Gran Canaria (6.98 million, 7.1% higher).
According to Aena, this information is the effect of the “consolidation of upward trends” which has been registered during these past months in the air traffic of its net. This way, in the two first months of the year there were 295,394 operations registered which is 3.5% higher than in the same period of 2010.
Besides, more than 7.1 million passengers of cruises have reached the Spanish harbours during 2010 which is 17.6% higher and a record on the sector, which is an outstanding fact due to the great growth during the last years, reaching Malaga 659,000 passengers (35%) and 253,000 to Valencia (37%) according to the information provided by the Ministry of Public Works.
